Next Steps in Christ
Following Jesus is a life-long journey of growing closer to God and becoming more like Him in every area of our life. As you begin, here are some ideas and practical steps to help you grow in your relationship with Christ.
Spend time with God every day.
Start with 10-15 minutes
Begin with silence. – 1 minute
Read the Bible. Start with the Gospel of Mark. Read a section or chapter. – 5 minutes
Reflect on what you’ve read, who Jesus is and what He’s like, as well other observations or things that caught your attention while reading. Perhaps write down a few key ideas in a notebook. – 4 minutes
Talk to God about what you read, how it challenged you, and whatever else comes to mind. God also invites us to share with Him everything we are going through. God may also bring someone’s name to mind. Pray for them. – 5 minutes
Invite God to be a part of your day and to help you to grow in awareness of His activity in your life.

Worship with others regularly. We have weekly services with worship and teaching for all ages.
Water baptism is a public expression of our inward decision to now follow Christ in our daily lives. As a follower of Jesus, one next step in your faith is to be baptized by full immersion in water. In Romans 6:4 it states, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
Learn practical lessons at classes and Bible studies that are offered throughout the year. You can hear the vision of this local church and its beliefs through our class, 101: Discovering Palm Valley Church.
Connect with a couple of friends who can share the journey with you and talk about how God is changing your life.
Enjoy the journey! Following Jesus is the best and most fulfilling way to live.
Why should I read the Bible?
Reading the Bible teaches us that we have a relationship with God.
“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.” (Ephesians 5:1)
Reading the Bible helps us discover our next step.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
Reading the Bible keeps us from giving in to temptations.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
Reading the Bible helps us to renew our minds so we can know God’s will.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)
Reading the Bible allows us to be certain of what God said. The Bible is our final authority.
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17)
Reading the Bible gives us courage.
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:8-9)
